WINTER
Trusting there’s warmth and flowing waters underneath
A winter reflection from *Liv. Thank God, bc i didn’t write anything.
Here we are in the middle of winter. Witnessing the sun return to us a little each day. A Leo Full moon ~ Ruled by the SUN. A nice reminder for this time of year. In the season of the water bearer ~ trust there’s water flowing under this frozen ground. Your kidneys certainly do. *Stagnant water is ripe for disease. how can you tune your waters to move in a way that feels rhythmic?*

A small collection of Winter care notes ~
Cold + Dry ~ Cold and Wet. It depends. Tune in. Main theme: keep waters moving.
Our self care connects us with our edge. Step back inside, remember, reconnect, reroot. With roots planted we step outside with a map in our pocket (nicely folded, obviously). We feel here on this earth, available for all of life. Ready to experience change. Ready to choose how we participate. Ready to play + party. Ready to serve.
Favorite summer rituals can be carried into these darker nights. Holding our devotion to the sun close. Touching and adorning our body with oil to warm up + keep things moving, while slowing down + staying rooted. You can hold the warmth of the sun and the swimming waters with you all year. The body loves Entrainment.
Daily movement creates the heat of the sun, moves your waters, allows the things that need to leave, leave. A body needs to move.
And when you don’t feel like moving , you can salt scrub ~ you’ll be surprised, all that moves with a little salt and oil.
Hydrated and nourished through fall and winter keeps us here on this earth . Our bodies retain moisture as it gets cold, we can feel it slow down, maybe a sense of congestion. Oil + touch warms our tissue, opens our detox pathways and keeps things moving. A meditative (or tv watching) practice, oil up, check in with your body, stand in the steamy shower and help the oil soak into your being and nourish your body.
Follow natures rhythms, don’t negotiate too much.
Slowing down is good but not stagnant ~ touch, salts scrubs, and pressure to invigorate + move energy circulation and lymph.
Cultivate groundedness to not float away ~ daily oil, touch and nature.
Clean without striping, a dry river doesn’t flow ~ hydrate, nourish. Masks are nice.
Oil! In your nose and your ears too. Less poetic but true. Ease the effort your body needs to make to keep you moist. She’s working so hard.
You can accomplish a lot with a small tool and a little oil. Choose one, pack it with you always and everywhere. I have a cutie in my pocket RN. the more we can give hydration, nourishment + touch, the more we feel here on this earth, ready to take action, ready to meet the world
Breathe in the cold, move in it. Your cells like it. The awe and connection in winter can be simple ~ walk, x-country ski, a couple deep breaths outside. It’s a choice to turn towards. Let it invigorate you, rather than stagnate.
Choose a small daily ritual, even smaller than anything above. A prayer, a breath, a puja, a sun salutation, a book page. *LOOK ABOUT YOU a book of ordinary prayers has been mine this winter.
what are your long nights, cold weather rituals?
